Their fur had become a matted cage, locking them into a world of pain and restricted movement. Minnie, the smaller of the two, could no longer even walk. Her body had given up, surrendered to the weight of the neglect.

But Mickey… Mickey refused to leave her side.

Even in his own agony, he remained her protector. He stayed close, as if his presence alone could keep her heart beating. For me, it’s a haunting question: Is it worse to keep a dog in this condition for years, or to abandon them on the road when they are at their weakest?

After the grooming—after we peeled away the layers of years of abuse—something incredible happened. With the help of our veterinarian, Nenad, and the dedicated care of Lana (the woman who first found them), Mickey and Minnie began to fight back.
