Thousands of cars pass by toll stations every single day.
People are usually in a hurry, focused solely on their destinations, rarely glancing at the dusty shadows on the side of the road. But sometimes, if you pause and look closely enough, those shadows are hiding a profound tragedy.
That was where we met Sukhita.
When a kind man first spotted him, there was no dramatic rescue scene. There was only a heavy, suffocating silence. Half of Sukhita’s frail, young body was mercilessly shoved inside a rough sack. It wasn’t an accident. Someone had deliberately forced him in there, discarding him as if his life held absolutely no value.
When we knelt beside him, he couldn’t even stand up.

The Scars of a Desperate Struggle
The sheer helplessness in his eyes brought immediate tears to our own. But as we carefully pulled him from the sack, the true extent of his nightmare revealed itself.
Sukhita was just a young dog, yet his body bore the horrific weight of long-term abuse. A heavy, rusting chain had been fastened tightly around his neck since he was a tiny puppy. As he grew, the metal had dug deep into his flesh, leaving raw, agonizing wounds.
Looking at those scars, you could almost see his history.
You could imagine the countless times he had tried to pull away. The desperate moments he fought to escape his confinement, only to be violently yanked back into submission. He fought until his body simply broke.
A Prison Within His Own Body
The physical trauma didn’t stop at his skin.
The severe abuse and broken bones had triggered a catastrophic failure within his internal systems. He was suffering from severe digestive issues and hadn’t been able to defecate. His urinary system was also severely compromised.
Sukhita wasn’t just trapped inside a sack; he was trapped inside a failing body that was poisoning him from the inside out.
Emergency surgery was the only way to help him regain normal bowel and urinary functions. As he was wheeled into the operating room, we held our breath, wondering if his spirit still had the desire to keep fighting.

Gliding Toward a Beautiful Tomorrow
Thankfully, the operation was a resounding success.
The greatest moment of relief came when Sukhita finally regained his appetite. He looked at his bowl of food, then looked up at us, almost as if asking permission to eat safely.
Today, Sukhita’s life looks vastly different. He doesn’t walk on four legs, but he is far from broken. With the help of a custom wheelchair, he is learning to navigate the world again. Watching him glide gently down the street is a deeply heartwarming experience.
His recovery is slow, measured in quiet, daily milestones. But surrounded by the warmth of his rescuer’s love and sharing affectionate moments every single day, Sukhita is healing. He reminds us all that true freedom isn’t about walking perfectly—it’s about having the courage to trust, and to move forward, one gentle push at a time.
