Some people look at a landfill and see only what is broken and discarded.
Yesterday, a landfill revealed something else: a soul that refused to give up.
Her name is Hanah. She was found lying among the waste, abandoned like a piece of unwanted trash. She had spent the entire night crying out into the darkness, her voice growing weaker with every hour, until a lady finally followed the sound of her heartbreak.
The reason she was dumped was soon clear. Hanah’s back was broken.
But as the rescuers lifted her from the debris, they noticed something that defied the tragedy of her situation. In her eyes, there wasn’t a plea for an end—there was a fierce, undeniable will to live.

A Reality That Would Break Most Spirits
The initial physical check-up brought difficult news.
Hanah had no sensation in her lower body. The prognosis was heavy: our girl might have to crawl for the rest of her life. Her back legs were thin, the muscles having wasted away until there was almost nothing left but bone and fur.
To the world, she was “permanently broken.” To us, she was just beginning her journey home.
“Let’s go home, Hanah,” her rescuers whispered. “From now on, you will only know love.”
The Long, Tough Road to Standing Tall
Recovery for Hanah isn’t measured in days, but in inches.
Despite the “bad shape” of her body, Hanah surprised everyone. She didn’t wait for a miracle; she tried to create one. She would push her upper body forward, trying to move, and remarkably, she did it with a big, bright smile on her face.

It was as if she knew that while her legs were still, her spirit was free to run.
The milestones began to flicker like small candles in the dark:
- The Appetite: She ate with a heartiness that fueled her recovery.
- The First Stand: A moment of pure grit where, for a few seconds, she defied gravity.
- The Wheels of Freedom: The day she received her first “scroller” (wheelchair), her world expanded. She was no longer bound by the floor; she was mobile.
Healing the Heart as Well as the Bone
But even the bravest warriors have dark days.
Sometimes, Hanah’s mood would drop. She would grow quiet, the weight of her struggle momentarily eclipsing her bright smile. In those moments, we realized that medicine wasn’t enough—she needed a friend.
We introduced her to Leila.
The bond was instant. Staying with Leila gave Hanah something a wheelchair couldn’t—the comfort of companionship. Her joy returned, proving that sometimes the best therapy has four legs and a cold nose.

A Promise Kept in Every Step
There is still a very long way to go before Hanah is ready for adoption. Her lower body needs time, patience, and constant care to regain even a fraction of what was lost.
But we made her a promise.
We promised her 100% love. We promised her that she would never have to cry alone in the dark again.
Hanah’s journey reminds us that:
- True strength isn’t about the muscles in your legs, but the courage in your heart.
- A disability is not a lack of worth; it is simply a different way of moving through the world.
- Home is wherever you are truly seen.
Hanah is still fighting. She is still smiling. And as long as she keeps trying, we will be right there beside her, matching her pace, one inch at a time.
