The world can sometimes feel like a dark place, especially when we hear stories of the most vulnerable among us being treated as disposable objects. But for a two-year-old Pit Bull mix named Binny, the darkness of a closed suitcase was just the beginning of a story that would eventually lead to a bright, sunlit future.
On November 18, a 911 call from a building on the 8800 block of Evergreen Way in Everett, Washington, changed everything. When Everett Police Department (EPD) officers arrived at the scene, they found a sight that was “horrifying” even for seasoned veterans.
Inside a dumpster, there was a suitcase—zipped entirely shut. When the officers opened it, they found Binny. She wasn’t just abandoned; she was bound with rope and shoved into the luggage, left to suffocate or starve in the “extreme conditions” of the trash.

A Mother’s Pain and a Fighter’s Spirit
Binny was immediately rushed to the Everett Animal Shelter (EAS), where the true extent of her suffering was revealed. She was in a critical state, throwing up blood and suffering from deep abrasions around her neck where the ropes had dug into her skin.
But perhaps the most heartbreaking discovery was that Binny had recently given birth to puppies. She had been torn away from her babies and discarded like trash at a time when she was most vulnerable.
“We ran blood tests, started antibiotics, and provided intense pain medication,” said Leslie Wall, assistant manager at EAS. The medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize her, but the biggest hurdle was her emotional recovery. How could a dog who had been “zip-tied” and dumped in a dumpster ever trust a human again?
The Smile That Defied the Past
What happened next was nothing short of a miracle.
Despite the ropes, the darkness of the suitcase, and the loss of her puppies, Binny refused to be broken. Within just a few weeks of receiving love and care from the shelter staff, the “timid” dog vanished. In her place emerged a vibrant, energetic soul who greets every new person with excitement and joy.
“She’s a great dog because she meets new people with excitement… which is something we don’t see a lot of times with dogs that have had this kind of history,” Wall shared. Today, Binny can be seen running around the shelter, her tail wagging so hard her whole body shakes, with a permanent smile on her face.
The Hunt for Justice
While Binny is now healthy and almost ready for her forever home, the search for the person responsible continues. The Everett Police Department is treating this as a serious criminal offense, which could range from a gross misdemeanor to a felony.
The community and national organizations have rallied behind her. PETA is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the identity of the person who abandoned her. Authorities are also desperately searching for any information regarding Binny’s missing puppies, who remain lost.
A New Chapter for Binny
Binny’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals and the importance of speaking up when something isn’t right.
✨ One call can save a life: If not for that 911 report, Binny would have died in that dumpster.
✨ Resilience is a choice: Binny chose to love again, proving that a traumatic past doesn’t have to define a joyful future.
✨ Justice requires the community: A $5,000 reward stands as a call to action to find those who committed this act.
Within the next week, Binny is expected to be officially cleared for adoption. She is ready to find a family that will never tie her down or lock her away—a family that will cherish her energy, her smile, and the incredible heart of a survivor.
